The first official trailer for WGN America's "Salem," which won't be shown on TV until Saturday, offers a better look at the cast and actual footage from the series.
"Salem," premiering April 20, retells the story of the Salem witch trials in 17th century Massachusetts. According to WGN America, "Salem" centers on an epic romance between Salem's most powerful witch, Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery), and war veteran John Alden (Shane West).
"'Salem' explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth behind them." A WGN America press release states. "In 'Salem,' witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem."
The trailer reflects that line, stating, "It wasn't paranoia, it was real."
We see Montgomery's character, Mary, warning the people of Salem that there is something worse than a witch hunt. "A witch," she says, adding later, "The good souls of Salem will drown themselves in innocent blood."
We're treated to examples of the bloodshed and witchy weirdness, along with glimpses of other cast members including Seth Gabel ("Fringe"), Ashley Madekwe ("Revenge"), Xander Berkeley ("Nikita," "The Mentalist"), Tamzin Merchant ("Jane Eyre") and Elise Eberle ("The Astronaut Farmer").
Brannon Braga ("24," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Voyager" and "Enterprise") and Adam Simon ("The Haunting in Connecticut") co-created, executive produced and wrote the series.
