"A Lonely Place to Die" (UK)

** (out of four)
Uh, didn't expect that. The frequently chilling first section of this Scottish Highlands-set thriller has very little to do with the last section, as a mountain climbing adventure shifts into a ridiculous heist action flick. That's when all decent filmmaking instincts fly out the window and the story of a group of climbers (including Melissa George of "30 Days of Night") trying to save a kidnapped girl they find in the woods jumps the shark, right off a cliff. Is it wrong to wish a movie about climbers would just involve them finding some beer and pizza and calling it a day?
