You know how The Roots band leader Questlove kind of always seems to be in Chicago deejaying at a nightclub nearby? If you didn't previously think that these sets were not to be missed, i'm telling you: Don't miss a Questlove DJ set if you can help it.
Headlining an all-star lineup of DJs at the live Turntable.fm showcase at SXSW on March 15--with A-Trak and Diplo--Questlove led a group of dance-hungry kiddos (like myself at the time, let's be honest) in a timeline of pop's greatest hits throughout the decades, spanning from Frankie Lymon's "Little Bitty Pretty One" to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" all the way up to Kanye West's "Gold Digger," all layered over and between some irresistable beats.
Sure, A-Trak and the many DJs on before him, may have warmed up the crowd a bit for a dance party, but Questlove got every single person in the expansive metal warehouse moving. Also consider: This was midnight on the third day of the festival, when feet start to ache and backs feel like they're about to break. Yet somehow everyone forgot about how much their dogs were killing them and just danced their faces off for a straight hour. Well done, sir.
Oh, and thanks for the retweet, Questlove.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
