"Diner"

I'm going to go with an unconventional choice, 1982's Diner. Not a "sports movie," per se, but a movie about the culture and mindset of sports fans. The movie takes place in 1959 Baltimore, around the time of the 1959 NFL championship between the Colts and Giants, with a story that centers around a young man who is forcing his fiancee to undergo a comprehensive football quiz. She must score a 60, I believe--otherwise the marriage is off.

His friends don't necessarily support his decision, but they definitely don't try to change his mind. In fact, they're all pretty excited to be present for the quiz, which they watch with an intensity only sports fans can muster.
