DIIV

What started as a side project for Beach Fossils' Zachary Cole Smith has now sort of usurped his original band. Or, at least, DIIV made a better album, with 2012's "Oshin" taking the bleary surfer twang of Fossils and spinning it around with a dancier '80s swing. Its initial whimsy and calm remain also, perfect for an afternoon act. -- Adam Lukach
