Chicago Lawn sees 3 homicides in 3 days


Chicago Lawn saw three homicides this week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

Two men, ages 22 and 23, were shot to death Sunday in the 6000 block of South Albany Avenue, according to officials. Two days later, a 32-year-old man was shot to death in the 6600 block of South Oakley Avenue, police said.

The community area has seen 12 homicides so far this year. Chicago Lawn logged 15 homicides last year, RedEye data shows.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last week in Austin, Humboldt Park, Roseland and Washington Park, RedEye determined.

Meanwhile, a 56-year-old man was found beaten to death Tuesday in the 5300 block of North Northwest Highway in Jefferson Park, police said.

Twenty-one homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 31 homicides in September last year, RedEye found.
