The latest from Paul Thomas Anderson ("Boogie Nights," "Magnolia," "There Will Be Blood") had a surprise screening in August at the Music Box, in its intended 70mm format. Anyone should be excited to see a movie from Anderson in any style; the guy's as skilled and exciting as they come, and this post-WWII story about a Navy vet (Joaquin Phoenix) and his encounter with a man (Philip Seymour Hoffman) leading a group rumored to resemble Scientology looks as heady as it gets.
