Outdoor Lighting Forum presents annual awards
State Rep. Frank Foster, R-Petoskey (from left), Emmet County Headlands International Dark Sky Park program director Mary Stewart Adams, Kilwin¿s Quality Confections co-owner Robin McCarty and Kim Leis, assistant manager at the Walgreens drug store on U.S. 31 North in Petoskey, display the Gary R. Williams Awards for Outdoor Lighting Excellence they accepted Monday during an annual Outdoor Lighting Forum luncheon at City Park Grill. The awards are named for a former Outdoor Lighting Forum participant, the late Gary Williams. The group honored Foster for his sponsorship of pending legislation to make 22,000 acres of state land in northern Emmet County part of a ¿Dark Sky Coast¿ with protections against light pollution. Adams¿ award commemorates her local advocacy of dark skies, while Kilwin¿s and Walgreens were recognized for outdoor lighting designs at their business sites that help curb light pollution.
