Pleasant Plains Elementary School students are seeing stars as the school prepares to host a "space night" on May 31.
During the event, students and their families will have the opportunity to perform hands-on experiments, visit the Baltimore County Starlab (a portable planetarium set up in the school's gym) and meet astronaut Don Thomas.
Plan now for activities to keep the kids busy this summer. Registration is open for children age 3 through the fifth grade for the daily vacation Bible school at Arnolia United Methodist Church, 1776 E Joppa Road. The program, called "Operation Over Board: Dare to go Deep with God," will run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., July 22-27. Registration is free; call 410-665-7005 for forms or information.
The church also will have only one combined service at 10 a.m. on Sundays, May 27 through Sept. 2.
Priscilla Calvert notes that the Arnolia Thrift Shop is open Mondays and Thursdays, and the second Saturday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop has new swim trunks, silk ties, sport caps, shorts and cool tops suitable for dad onFather's Day. Parkville Senior Center, 8601 Harford Road, will host a flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16. Spaces are $15; vendors must supply their own tables and chairs. Call 410-887-5338 for reservation.
Cromwell Valley Park on Cromwell Bridge Road has several programs on its calendar. On Saturday, May 26, from 1 to 3 p.m., the park will host "Make My Garden for Monarchs," a class focusing on creating a garden to attract butterflies and caterpillars. The class is for ages 8 and older.
On Sunday, June 3, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., a class for kids ages 6 to 9 is called "Fun with Ladybugs" and will include information and a ladybug craft.
And on Saturday, June 9, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., the park will host a night hike and campfire with s'mores.
