Dulaney High School was one of five schools nationwide selected this month to receive a $5,000 Educator for a Day grant from Walden University, in Minnesota. Schools that were selected hosted an Educator for a Day event on Thursday, Nov. 15.
For its event, Dulaney invited parents and others from the community into classrooms to shadow, co-teach and provide real-world examples illustrating how the work students are doing relates to real workforce skills.
Dulaney High School will use its grant to fund Building Your Future, an all-day sophomore retreat in which teachers, counselors, juniors and seniors, parents and community members will assist 10th-graders in planning for their future.
In all, Walden University awarded $25,000 in grants during NEA’s American Education Week
Grants were awarded based on teachers’ and administrators’ answers to essay questions about what noneducators should know about their school, what makes their school unique and how their school would use the grant money.
