Providence event dedicates World Trade Center beam

The Providence Volunteer Fire Company, 1416 Providence Road, will host a ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m., at the fire station, at 1416 Providence Road, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The public is invited to the event, which will include the dedication of a structure being installed at the station — a steel beam from the World Trade Center. The beam is part of the station's Walk of Memory.

Speakers at the ceremony will include Battalion Chief Stephen Lancaster and Capt. Robert Murray, who were with units that responded to the scene of the World Trade Center shortly after the attacks.

At the event, the station will also officially place its new Ladder Truck 297 in service.

In addition to this event, several other ceremonies and programs are planned in the area to mark the 9/11 anniversary:

A Service of Remembrance, Comfort and Hope — will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Church of the Holy Comforter, 130 W Seminary Ave., Lutherville. Beginning at 8:46 a.m., the service will commemorate the events of 9/11. The service will also offer a salute to local first responders. Call 410-252-2711.

Welcome Sunday — at Ascension Lutheran Church, 7601 York Road, Towson, will include a special service at 8:30 and 11 a.m. on Sept. 11. Lunch will be served after the 11 a.m. service. All are invited. Call 410-825-1725.

Remembering 9/11 — is a service being held at 8:30 and 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at Towson United Methodist Church, 501 Hampton Lane, Towson. The service will include handbell music accompanied by visuals images by Michael Helman and James and Linda Simms, and an interview with a pastor who was at Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001. Remembering Sept. 11, 2001 — is the subject of a service at Timonium United Methodist Church, 2300 Pot Spring Road, Lutherville, on Sunday, Sept. 11. Pastor Francie Dailey will speak, and the Chancel Choir will sing under the direction of Mike Keller. Call 410-252-5500 or

Commemorating 9/11 — the Tuesdays at Towson series at Towson University, Tuesday, Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m., will offer an evening of music and film commemorating 9/11, presented by faculty members from the university's departments of music and electronic media and film.
