Havre de Grace skate park razed

The public skate park on Havre de Grace's Seneca Avenue was recently razed by the city after it fell into disuse, public works director Larry Parks said.

The fence around the small area in what is known as Todd Field was taken down at the end of 2010, and the macadam was removed several weeks ago.

"It was no longer used and it could be a hazard just sitting there like that," Parks said. "There wasn't anyone to run it, and insurance was a lot and, just, interest waned."

He said the Havre de Grace Recreation Council "stopped using it a long time ago."

The cost of removing the blacktop was fairly low, Parks said, "probably just the labor costs."

Although the park is gone, nothing will replace it anytime soon and few suggestions have been put forward.

"It was suggested maybe a Little League-sized ballfield would go there," Parks said. "We don't know until more is discussed."
