VFW ladies entertained at annual 'President's Tea'

Kathy Heaton, president of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 8185, entertained her officers and several members of the post's auxiliary at her annual "President's Tea" on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the post home, 520 Susquehanna River Road. Kathy prepared and served a selection of tea sandwiches and appetizers along with three different kinds of tea. Kathy then presented service pins to Ruth Turner, Shirley Eller and Cindi Lamb Wiley for five years, to Sarah Cunningham for 25 years and to Elizabeth Deckman for 50 years. Later, the ladies enjoyed musical selections performed by soloist Cindi Lamb Wiley of Conowingo. Attendees included District 10 officers Dee Russo and Terry Dawson, Post 8185 auxiliary members Elizabeth Deckman, Sarah Cunningham, Anne Gibson, Stephanie Gibson, Patricia Job, Teena Wilson, Ruth Turner, Shirley Eller and Cindi Lamb Wiley, and guests Anita Deckman and Millie Rush.

David Barr, Rock Run Road, continues his recovery at Christiana Hospital after being struck by a car while he was directing traffic at an accident scene in Perryville on Oct. 25.

Congratulations to Karen and Fred Mott of Conowingo as they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Nov. 1.

Melissa Harbold, South Main Street, added a year to her age on Nov. 2 as did Bonnie Perkins and Renee Creswell.

Linda Read enjoyed birthday greetings on Nov. 3 as did our son, Jason. Donnie Poist celebrated his birthday on Nov. 4. Teresa Bittner blew out the candles on her birthday cake at Sunny Acres in North East on Nov. 6. Steve Fox and Paula Gilley were birthday celebrants on Nov. 6 as well.

Mary Krauss, North Main Street, celebrated her 90th birthday on Oct. 29 with surprise visits from her sons, Jimmy and George and their families. An impromptu birthday lunch was held at the Bayou Restaurant in Havre de Grace, with 13 in attendance. Mary received 30 birthday cards and good wishes from all over.

The Irish Jasper Greens will perform live at the Maryland Irish Festival, South Hall Stage, Timonium Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1:30 p.m. The well-known local group plans to donate all proceeds to the St. Patrick's Chapel Historical Society for the benefit of St. Patrick's Chapel, Conowingo.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185, 520 Susquehanna River Road, will sponsor a flag retirement service in conjunction with the Sunday afternoon dinner visit by the veterans from Perry Point VA Medical Center on Nov. 10 at the post home. Dinner will be served at 4 p.m. when the veterans arrive and music will be provided by DJ Bob Cross. Then, at dusk the guests will gather in the parking lot for the flag retirement ceremony conducted by auxiliary members with the assistance of Boy Scout Troop 143. The attendees will then return to the post banquet hall for coffee and dessert. Interested parties can check out the different VFW programs and those eligible for membership can apply. The public is invited to this free event.

Janes United Methodist Church presents "Joy-Full Songs," a free Thanksgiving concert, on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. Janes Church is at 213 Walnut St. in Rising Sun. Call 410-658-6800 for more information. Enjoy songs by soloist Cindi Lamb Wiley and the Janes Praise Band. Freewill donations will benefit the Ray of Hope Mission Center.

Good Shepherd's Annual Christmas Bazaar is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. each evening. Spaghetti suppers will be served each day from 4 to 7 p.m. Look forward to kids' activities, live entertainment, bake stand, basket wheel, beverage booth, raffles, pictures with Santa and lots of vendors. The raffle prizes are a Cal Ripken signed jersey for first prize, a Cal Ripken signed bat for second prize and two Ravens Super Bowl jerseys for third prize.
