Port Deposit: Boy Scout Troop 143 helps with Port flag-burning ceremony

To all our local veterans, thank you for your service!

Boy Scout Troop 143 assisted the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 on Veterans Day with the post's first flag retirement ceremony. The brief ceremony, held at dusk at the post home at 520 Susquehanna River Road, was attended by approximately 30 patriots. After a welcome, the pledge of allegiance and the opening prayer, Senior Patrol Leader Joel McCall assumed command of the ceremony and gave the order to "retire the flag." The Boy Scouts then properly burned one huge flag which represented all the worn flags which were on hand to be burned. The assembly then enjoyed light refreshments in the post's banquet hall.

Former Port-ite, Sharon Nichols, added a year to her age on Nov. 14; and John Sice of Colora celebrated his birthday on Nov. 15, as did Ruth "Goodie" McMullen of Linton Run.
