Port Deposit: Ghosts, goblins, tricks and treats at Port Halloween party

The Port Deposit VFW Post 8185 is the place to be Saturday at 8 p.m. for a Halloween dance. Music will be provided by the Route 1 Band and snacks will be prepared and sold by the ladies auxiliary to Post 8185. Costumes are encouraged but are not mandatory and prizes will be awarded for the best. The donation will be $10 per person. So, raid the attic and make plans to enjoy a musical evening along the river in Port Deposit.

Much sympathy is extended to the family and many friends of Charles F. Smith, who passed away at his home in Port Oct. 10. Charlie was past post commander of the American Legion 135 and he also served the legion at the district level as commander and chaplain. He was well known for his compassion and caring for all veterans and his love for his family.

Joyce and Dan Eder's daughter, Kathleen, enjoyed birthday wishes Oct. 17.

Happy birthday to Margaret Murray of Bel Air, as she celebrated her big day Oct. 20. And Janet Brown of Perryville was wished many happy returns on the same day.

Our granddaughter, Ella, celebrated her 7th birthday with a party at her home Oct. 21. Her little friends and cousins enjoyed pizza, cupcakes and a piñata.

Sarah Warrington Colenda, Principio Furnace, subtracted a year from her age Oct. 24.

Happy anniversary to Oliver and Divina Dominguez of Aberdeen as they celebrated their wedding Oct. 26.

The ladies auxiliary to the Water Witch Fire Company will honor those members who have at least 25 years of service to their company at an "Honors Tea" on Sunday at 1 p.m. at The Hidden Bean, 8 S. Main St. This year's honorees are Marie Tennis, Maggie Jackson, Marie Bannon, Anne Gibson, Teresa Bittner, Mary Krauss, Shirley Sentman, Carlene Poist, Amy Lipka and Ann Delp.

The Paw Paw Museum, 98 N. Main St., will open on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

The officers and board of directors of the Port Deposit Heritage Corporation will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Paw Paw Building. Since this is the year for the Candlelight Tour on Saturday, Dec. 1, the board will continue to make plans for this event.

As the "Americanism" chairman for the ladies auxiliary to VFW Post 8185, I want to remind everyone of the VFW's program "Get Out the Vote." On Election Day, Nov. 6, if you need transportation to the polls, call your local VFW and ask for a ride. Port's polling place is Bainbridge Elementary School and Port's VFW, at 520 Susquehanna River Road, can be reached by calling 410-642-9297.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony in celebration of Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, at dusk at the post home at 520 Susquehanna River Road, Port. Bring your damaged or worn flags to the post at 5 p.m. that evening and dispose of them properly. Light refreshments will be served by the ladies auxiliary and the public is invited.

Good Shepherd Parish is planning its Christmas Bazaar for Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Good Shepherd Catholic School, 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville. Spaghetti suppers will be served both evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. and there will be games, music, food, vendors, Santa, raffles, a basket wheel and much more. Mark your calendars and plan to be there.
