Gibsons represent Water Witch at Ladies Auxiliary fall conference

Men and women from all over Maryland gathered at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Company's Activity Center in Montgomery County Saturday for the fall conference of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Maryland State Fireman's Association. Cecil County auxiliary members from Singerly, North East, Chesapeake City and Water Witch attended the conference. President Stephanie Gibson and Secretary Anne Gibson attended the conference as representatives from the Water Witch Fire Company ladies auxiliary.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 entertained the Perry Point veterans Sunday at the post home, 520 Susquehanna River Road. In keeping with a "football" theme, Auxiliary President Kathy Heaton and her crew of Terry Heaton, Ruth Turner, Anne Gibson, Christine Farley, Lizzie Gibson and Stephanie Gibson provided "tail-gating" food like chili, cornbread and nachos. Music and karaoke were provided by DJ Bob Cross followed the dinner while the veterans watched the end of the Ravens/Packers game.

Charlene Dunn, Rising Sun, one of the Monday Morning McDonald's Bingo Gang, celebrated her birthday on Oct. 7. Belated birthday wishes, Charlene.

Much sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Joan Hayes, Jackson Park Road, as she passed away at Upper Chesapeake Health Center Saturday. Joan's services were Wednesday at Patterson Funeral Home, Perryville. Special condolences are sent out to her daughter, Ginger Hayes-Powers, and her family.

Sandy Auman LaFontaine, Rising Sun, celebrated her birthday on Oct. 13 and Rhoda Bosley, also of Rising Sun, enjoyed birthday greetings on Oct. 14. Former Port Deposit residents Cindy Jackson (Florida) and Jerry Creswell (Delaware) added a year to their respective ages on Oct. 15.

Happy Boss's Day to all the bosses out there on Oct. 16…and all the best to my former boss, Dr. Galvez, on her retirement after practicing medicine for 40 years.

Oct. 16 is also a day for lots of birthdays, including Mary Cunningham of Havre de Grace and Donna Barr and our granddaughter, Ella, both of Port Deposit.

The planning for Good Shepherd Catholic School's Fall Festival is complete. The festival will be held Saturday from noon until 7 p.m. on the school grounds at 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville. Look forward to plenty of affordable family fun with kids activities including pumpkin decorating and scarecrow making, games, vendors, music, Oktoberfest food and beer, raffles and kids rides (weather permitting). Because of the bad weather last week and weekend, the VFW Post 8185 had to postpone the Fall Car Show scheduled for Oct. 12. The rain date is Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the post home at 520 Susquehanna River Road, Port Deposit. Pre-registration is $13 per vehicle until Oct. 20. Registration on the day of the show will be $15 which includes one free hot dog and one free beverage. Dash plaques will be given to the first 70 registered vehicles. Stop by for food, raffles, music, fun – and all those fabulous classic cars and trucks. Call 410-642-2847 for pre-registration, directions, or additional information. All proceeds benefit our veterans and/or the VFW's Adopt-a-Unit Program.

The VFW Post 8185 will sponsor the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the post home, 520 Susquehanna River Road, starting at 5 p.m. All entries must be received by 3:30 p.m. and a $5 entry fee will be collected. Call 410-642-9297 for info.

A Basket Bingo will be held at the VFW Post 8185 on Saturday, Oct. 26. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the games will begin at 7 p.m. The ticket cost of $12 includes paper cards for 20 games and a chance on the door prizes. Food, raffles and additional cards will be available for separate purchase. Bingo prizes will be Longaberger products. The Paw Paw Museum, 98 N. Main St., will be open on Sunday, Oct. 27 for the last time this season. The museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. that day. Stop by and take a gander at the many artifacts on display.

A Basket Bingo will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. The doors will open at noon and the games will begin at 1 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased for $12 by calling 410-734-7906; the tickets will cost $15 at the door. The prizes will be handcrafted baskets by the Deer Creek Basketry Guild. There will be door prizes, raffles, food, a bake sale and handcrafted baskets for sale. Did you know that the Deer Creek Basketry Guild meets each month in Abingdon? Their handmade baskets are exquisite. The next meeting will be held on Nov. 3 at noon.
