Volunteers, donors help make Port Deposit bingo a success

Many thanks to the players and supporters of the Heritage's Basket and Bag Bingo at the Port Deposit VFW over the weekend. Thanks to donors like Maggie Jackson, Patsy Grace, Judy Leonard, Lois Ashworth, Glen Longacre, George Maldeis, Evelyn Jordan, Beverly Narvell and Nellie Hipkins, plus workers like Laura Luongo, Elizabeth Gibson, Stephanie Gibson, Steven and Christine Farley, Anne Gibson and my husband, Rick Bierly – the Heritage was able to have a successful fundraiser. This non-profit organization relies on its annual fundraiser to continue its education, preservation and restoration efforts in this area. The Port Deposit Heritage Corporation owns and operates the Paw Paw Museum at 98 N. Main St.

Much sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Port Deposit resident Cora Griffin, who passed away Sept. 4, and to the family and friends of Nicholas Klein of Colora, who passed away Sept. 9.

Welcome home to sisters Nancy Drexler of Texas and Shirley Drexler as they were out and about over the weekend in their hometown of Port Deposit. I heard that the women stopped by the Bainbridge Museum Saturday while they were in our area for a 50th class reunion.

The Gibson Family enjoyed a crab feast Sunday in celebration of two birthdays: Christine Gibson Farley and Elizabeth Gibson both added a year to their respective ages on Sept. 12. The family gathered at the home of the girls' grandparents, Anne and Steve Gibson, on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a second "birthday bash."

Michael Nastick of Havre de Grace, enjoyed birthday greetings on Sept. 14.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Water Witch Fire Company met Monday at Woodlawn Station for its regular monthly meeting. The main topic under discussion was their upcoming spaghetti supper scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at House 2 off Tome Highway. The ladies also have a Basket Bingo coming up on Oct. 26 at the Port Deposit VFW.

Joyce Eder of Conowingo celebrated her birthday on Sept. 17.

Boy Scout Troop 28 will sponsor a Basket Bingo on Sunday at the American Legion Post 194, 336 E. Main St., Rising Sun. The doors will open at 2 p.m., the early bird game will be played at 2:50 p.m. and the regular games will start at 3 p.m. Call 410-658-3915 for info.

Good Shepherd School, 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville, has scheduled its annual golf tournament for Sept. 23 at Furnace Bay Golf Course, Perryville, and its annual crab feast catered by The Wellwood for Sunday, Sept. 29. The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 will sponsor a quarter auction on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the post home, 520 Susquehanna River Road. The doors will open at 1 p.m. and the auction will start at 2 p.m. The ticket cost will be $10 per person, which includes dinner and two paddles. Your favorite vendors will be there. Proceeds will benefit the VFW's programs which assist our local veterans. Call Anne, 410-378-3338, for information or table reservations.

Get ready to play bingo again in Perryville on Sunday, Oct. 6, as the Ladies Auxiliary to the American Legion Post 135 has scheduled an all-day bingo. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and the games start at 11:45 a.m. Food will be available for separate purchase. American Legion Post 135 is at 300 Cherry St., Perryville.
