Port VFW ladies auxiliary gets visit from national president

Kathy Heaton, president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185, 520 Susquehanna River Road, hosted a visit from Sissy Borel, national president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Borel was accompanied by Department of Maryland President Lyn MacArthur of Abingdon and Department of Maryland Historian Libby DallaTezza of Keymar, and their husbands. Kathy and her officers provided lite fare for Sissy and her entourage. Borel hails from Starks, La., and she has been "on the road" since her installation as national president this summer. She visited nine states in August and so far her September visits total eight. Sissy expects to return to Louisiana on Sept. 15, but after a short break will get back on the road, making more visits to more VFW posts throughout the U.S.

Two Port Deposit sisters share more in common than just their last name of Gibson. Christine Gibson Farley and her sister, Elizabeth Gibson, were born on the same day, Sept. 12 – four years apart. On Tuesday, Christine said goodbye to her teens as she turned 20 on Sept. 12 while Elizabeth celebrated her "sweet 16" on the same day. Best wishes to both young ladies.
