Port Deposit: Water Witch Fireman's Carnival through Saturday

The Water Witch Firemen's Carnival continues through Saturday, opening at 6 p.m. each day. There will be fireworks Friday and a matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m. Rain date for the fireworks will be Saturday. Come enjoy the rides, games, raffles, music, and food.

Much sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Carl Page of Perryville, as he lost his fight with cancer last week. Condolences are sent out to his wife, Pauline, and their daughter, Janet, and their families.

And we just got word of the passing of Nancy Logan Peters, High Street, after suffering for many years with kidney disease. Much sympathy is extended to husband, Frank, and their daughter, Aimee, and their families.

The reunion performance of "The Runabouts, Then and Now," was a real happening event in Havre de Grace last weekend. My husband, Rick, hails from Havre de Grace and he enjoyed seeing old friends and old bandmates at the Havre de Grace Activity Center Saturday night. The performance included original band members plus friends and family of the band members. The proceeds benefited several local charities.

The VFW membership, along with the men's auxiliary and the ladies auxiliary to Post 8185 enjoyed a dinner at the post home Sunday following the installation of officers. D. Harvey Cunningham was again installed as post commander while Steve Gibson retained his position and was installed as president of the men's auxiliary. Janet Mortus was re-elected and installed as president of the ladies auxiliary. The installation ceremony was chaired by Kathy Heaton and Linda Cotton prepared the roast beef dinner.

Maggie Jackson, Jackson Park Road, celebrated her birthday on May 13. The following week she was in a fender bender and took a little trip to shock trauma. Except for a hurt ankle, she was A-OK! She is sent our wishes for a speedy recovery.

Happy birthday to Michael Cather as he celebrated on May 19 and to Doug Atwell who celebrated on May 20.

Keri Liberatore added a year to her age on May 21. And Nicholas Powers blew out 10 candles on his birthday cake on May 23 while Coby Foster turned 11 on May 24. Ceda Perkins, daughter of Bonnie Perkins, enjoyed birthday greetings on May 24.

The Irish Jasper Green singers have scheduled a benefit performance at the Irishtown Brewing Co. LLC, 400 N. Bridge St., Elkton, today at 8 p.m. A portion of the profits will be donated to St. Patrick's Chapel, in Pilottown (now known as Conowingo).

Memorial Day services, conducted by the VFW Post 8185, will be held at two locations on Sunday, May 27. The first wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Harmony Chapel cemetery on Dr. Jack Road, Conowingo. Then, the VFW members will move on to Memorial Plaza near Marina Park in Port at 11 a.m. Following the wreath-laying ceremony there, everyone will gather at the VFW Post 8185, 520 Susquehanna River Road, at noon for a luncheon. The public is invited.

Mark your calendars for SunFest, scheduled for Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the center of Rising Sun. As the sign says, "Enjoy your day in the sun with the family, it's fun."

This year's Concert in the Park Series, sponsored by the Havre de Grace Arts Commission begins on Friday, June 1 featuring the Lou Natale Jazz Concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Millard E. Tydings Park. The concert is free but you need to bring your chair or blanket. Call the commission at 410-939-2100 for more information.

Our Relay for Life team, along with 50 other teams, will walk all night from Friday, June 1 at 6 p.m. to Saturday, June 2 at 6 a.m. at Elkton High School. Luminaries can still be purchased "in memory of" or "in honor of" your loved ones who succumbed to cancer or are struggling with cancer. Make your $10 check payable to the American Cancer Society and mail it to Bethany's Angels, 765 Jacob Tome Highway, Port Deposit, MD 21904. You can donate any amount by mail, you can come to Relay on June 1 and walk to support all the survivors or you can attend the Basket Bingo which starts at 10 p.m. that evening in Elkton High School's cafeteria. Everyone is welcome to attend.
