Perryville: Congrats to mayor, commissioners on election

Congratulations to Mayor Jim Eberhardt on his re-election in Perryville and congratulations to Barbara Brown on her re-election to the commissioner board and to newcomer Ray Ryan on his first term.

Hope you all had a chance to go to Spring Fling – great job by all who did the planning – it was a great day. At least this year the weather was good.

Thank you to the men of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for the wonderful Pancake Breakfast for Mothers on Sunday.

Our family enjoyed aMother's Daycrab feast. Those enjoying the feast included Mary Lou and Herb Southall, Roger and I and Linda, Natalie and Jeffrey Barton.

Cyn and Jason Green also had a crab feast. Those joining the Green family were Jack and Donna Green (Jason's parents), Mary and Don Bennett (Cyn's parents) and all of their siblings. Janet and Bill Green, Linda and Steve Green, Matt and Susan McLaughlin, Lynn and Don Bennett Jr., Harry and Emily Bennett and Nancy and George Simpson.

Sara and Jimmy Lemon enjoyed theMother's Dayweekend in Ocean City.

Sally and "Mac" MacDonald spent the Mother's Day weekend in Atlantic City. What a weekend they had.

The CGR Relentless 5K and Fun Walk will benefit the Cody G Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund. It will be held on June 2 in Perryville. The run/walk will start and end at Perryville Middle School, proceed down Aiken Avenue, turn right on Broad Street, right on Susquehanna Avenue, left on Frenchtown Road, left on Broad Street and left on Aiken Avenue. The walk route is only 3K and slightly different. Registration is available on or through the downloadable mail-in form on our website. We will have registration open on-site on race day beginning at 8 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 9 a.m. All proceeds go toward the scholarships we will give to local Cecil and Harford County high school seniors going on to running programs at the college level.

The live band LIX will perform Saturday, June 9, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Susquehanna Post 135, 300 Cherry St. in Perryville. Cost is $10 per person in advance and $12 at the door. Cost includes draft beer, pretzels and chips. Event benefits the Sons of the American Legion.

A crab feast at Ripken Stadium Aug. 10 will start at 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $50 per person with Dennis Bolen of Havre de Grace. He has made a challenge for the Class of 1970 – come on our let's see how many of our alumni will make this event. Roger and I went last year and had a blast. So join Dennis and the gang for a night at Ripken Stadium, with all-you-can-eat Maryland steamed crabs, corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, soda, water and beer. You will receive an IronBirds baseball cap for attending. The buffet is for two hours from the start of catering or through the seventh inning (whichever is first).

I have 40 tickets available. If you are interested please contact Dennis Bolen, 410-459-7179. I will need a deposit of $25 per person by June 1 and the remainder by June 30. Invite your family, friends and co-workers. Let's have a good time rooting for the Aberdeen IronBirds, while eating those delicious Maryland steamed crabs. Steamed crabs and baseball....what could be better?

A Memorial Day service will be held at the American Legion Post on 300 Cherry St. on Monday, May 28 at 11 a.m. The club and bar will be closed during the ceremony. Following the ceremony light refreshments will be served.

Texas Hold 'Em will be played at American Legion Post 135, 300 Cherry St. in Perryville on Fridays, May 18 and June 1. Games start at 7 p.m. with registration at 6. A side game starts at 4 p.m. Buy-in is $25. A Saturday game is scheduled June 16. Games start at 2 p.m. with registration at 1 and a side game at 4. Buy-in is $50. All fundraisers benefit American Legion Programs.

The First Baptist Church of Perryville will hold a community block party at the lot adjacent to Rodgers Tavern Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. Food, games, prizes and a DJ will be at this free event.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church will serve Martha's Meal at Grove Presbyterian Church on June 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Perryville United Methodist Church will hold a chicken pot pie carry out sale only on Wednesday, June 6. All orders must be placed no later than 11 a.m. by calling 410-642-3411. If the line is busy do not leave a message, call back. Cost is $6. There will be no Thursday luncheon.
