The annual Perryville Spring Fling will be held on May 12 at 9 a.m. This event will be held at Perryville Middle School and include a fair with craft and food vendors, kids games, entertainment, etc., sponsored by the Perryville Chamber of Commerce. A 5K run and 1 mile walk will begin at Perryville Middle School, go south on Aiken Avenue through Old Town Perryville and end back at the middle school. The First Baptist Church of Perryville will hold a community block party at the lot adjacent to Rodgers Tavern on May 19 from 1 to 6 p.m. Food, games, prizes and a DJ will be at this free event.
May 16 will be the Outreach Programs Chief's Challenge Basketball and Skate Tournament beginning at 10 a.m. at Trego Field in Perryville.
Want to make some money and help out a good cause at the same time? Join Food Lion for its annual spring yard sale on April 28! Cost is $10 per parking spot – buy as many packing spots as you think you need. All proceeds will benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Setup begins at 7 a.m. and the yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food Lion will be grilling and selling refreshments. Havre de Grace Elks Club April events include bingo, April 25; breakfast, April 22; and Italian sub dinner, today (Friday), from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Havre de Grace Elks Lodge is having a Waffle Breakfast on Sunday, April 29, from 8 to 11 a.m. for $6. per person. Self-serve breakfast includes homemade waffles with your choice of toppings of apples, cherries, blueberries, syrup, whipped cream and butter. Included is bacon, sausage, tomato juice, orange juice, tea and coffee.
Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenways 12th annual River Sweep, a volunteer shoreline and roadside clean-up in honor of Earth Day, will take place in Havre de Grace, Perryville, Port Deposit and on Garrett Island on Saturday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 in one of the five locations for registration: Tydings Park in Havre de Grace, Community Park and Boat Launch at River Road in Perryville, Marina Park and Octoraro Creek in Port Deposit. Volunteers interested in working on Garrett Island should meet at the Perryville Boat Launch during registration time. These volunteers need to bring their own boats or kayaks for transportation to and from Garrett Island and also be willing to collect and or haul trash and debris.
After registering, volunteers will fan out to spend the morning removing trash and other debris from the Upper Bay region, including the Chesapeake Bay, Susquehanna River and tributaries that feed into the Susquehanna River.
With an early spring this year, underbrush may grow more quickly and cover over trash and debris sooner than usual. Those interested in participating in River Sweep can be involved in several ways before and after April 21st.
Sunday is the all-you-can-eat breakfast at the Perryville Fire Company's Minker Hall from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Menu includes eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage, biscuits, pancakes, scrapple, sausage gravy, chipped beef gravy, French toast, coffee, tea, milk, chocolate milk and OJ. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids 6 and older and $5 for kids under 6.
Basket and Bags Bingo will be held today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church fellowship hall. This event is sponsored by the Aberdeen High School basketball team.
