Havre de Grace residents who have concerns with the plan to build a new hospital near the I-95/Route 155 interchange will have another opportunity to discuss the project with city officials.
During the city council meeting Monday, Councilwoman Barbara Wagner said the public is invited to an upcoming committee meeting, at city hall on July 10 at 7 p.m., to discuss possible amendments to the mixed-use zoning ordinance and the future Upper Chesapeake Health hospital project.
Council President Randy Craig thanked the people who have spoken up with their concerns about the mixed-use zoning ordinance, saying they returned, through their homeowners' association, "one of the most cogent and constructive advice or considerations."
"It's very helpful to receive that type of input as a city council member. I really appreciate that, and they turned it around very quickly," Craig said.
Preliminary plans for the hospital and an adjoining medical office park were made available to the public prior to the June 18 council meeting, where the mixed use zoning for the project was also discussed. Several residents expressed concerns about lighting and other issues at that meeting.
Councilman Bill Martin announced that the first meeting of the War of 1812 committee, with 18 members, will take place at the police station on July 11 at 6 p.m.
The council also approved applications from Restore Church to move Movies at the Park from Aug. 24 to Sept. 7, and add an Aug. 3 date to Friday Concerts at the Park, because of rain on June 22.
Five people were reappointed to the Historic Preservation Commission: Ron Browning, Melvin Wolinski, Kathy Keen, Grace Dennis and Judy Plitt.
Martin said he was "enthusiastic" to appoint them, noting they work hard and have served the commission faithfully.
Council members thanked the July 4th committee for putting on the parade Sunday.
Mayor Wayne Dougherty noted: "They're not reimbursed for their time or anything else."
The council went into closed session at the end of the meeting. Craig said the meeting was closed to discuss possible property acquisition.
