George Jones headed to Port Deposit

A country legend is coming to Port Deposit this weekend, along with a free food and wine festival.

George Jones will be performing at the Cecil County Food and Wine Festival at Marina Park on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m.

Starting the day of live entertainment is Michele Block, followed by Audio Outlaws, Country Memories, Walk Ins Welcome and Dean Crawford and the Dunn's River Band. Country Memories was just booked last week, event co-coordinator Sam Dixon said Wednesday.

"We think that George Jones fans will really like that band because it's really that era of music," Dixon said.

Tickets to the concert are $49.50 each for general admission and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the event. As of Wednesday afternoon, Dixon said, they had approximately 420 tickets remaining and would end online sales at 8 a.m. Friday morning.

Those interested in purchasing tickets after Friday morning can either stop by Marina Park that evening or pick them up at the door, although Dixon encouraged people to come early because space is limited.

The festival is free, but guests can purchase wine glasses at $15 each for the tasting portion, which will feature six local vineyards. Several food vendors will be on hand as well with everything from crab cakes to pit beef and barbecue chicken, Dixon added.

In addition to the wine tasting, there will be soda, water and beer available, Dixon said, but the event is still open to all ages.

For many, he added, this may be the last time to see George Jones in concert.

"It's been a decade since he's been in Cecil County," Dixon said, "[and] he may never be in Cecil County again."

For more information go to Parking will be available at $3 per car at the Water Witch Fire Company on Tome Highway.
