June filled with events galore in Aberdeen

Here it is, June 1, and there are scheduled events galore!

We were invited to the Senior Center to talk to the Golden Age Club about Aberdeen, and it was a real pleasure to get back to talk to such a large gathering of folks interested in the community around them.

The gift pen with our name and the Aberdeen Golden Age Club inscribed will be very useful, and we thank them so much. The staff also provided us with their June list of events that is filled with exciting happenings.

Today (Friday, June 1) from 9 to 11 a.m. there will be a Doughnut Day Celebration. From 10 to 11 a.m. the men will have a discussion group and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the Memoir and Journaling Writing Class will meet.

On June 4, and every Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m. there will be the Basic Computer Workshop.

On June 5, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., and every Tuesday, the Basket Weaving Studio will be open. Also on June 5, and every third Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., there is the Diabetes Support Group. From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and every Tuesday, the Golden Age Club will meet. To continue the busy day, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and on the third Tuesdays, there is the Basic Spanish Class.

On June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon, the Harford Community College Nursing Program will hold a session. From 10 to 11 a.m., the Arena Club will host moving and grooving. From 10 a.m. to noon, there will be Blood Pressure and Nutrition with Memory Loss and Brain Health "Brain Games."

On June 8 from 10 to 11 a.m., and every Friday except the first Friday, there will be a veterans discussion group.

There will be Salad Bar with Andrea on June 12 at 12:30 p.m.

On June 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. the Arena Club will be moving and grooving again. Also on June 14, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., there will be a Musical Trip and Dance to the Caribbean with the Red Alerts.

The Senior Center will be closed for a staff meeting on June 15.

On June 18 from 11 a.m. to noon there will be senior council meeting.

Father's Day will be celebrated on June 19 from 9 a.m. to noon with Gary Alessandria and the Golden Agers.

The Big Crab Feast on June 20 is from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

June 21 from 10 a.m. to noon is Bingo and Nutrition.

June birthdays will be celebrated on June 22 at 12:30 p.m.

June 23 is a big day from 1 to 4 p.m. with Saturday Line Dance Social with light refreshments for all ages. Call Peggy, 410-273-5666.

Rounding out the month on June 28 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. will be Arthritis Awareness Day with Dr. Kordonski. At 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., you can learn how physical therapy can help with aches and pains, related to joint health and arthritis. Busy month at the senior center!

On June 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a celebration of the City of Aberdeen's Inner County Outreach in Festival Park. There will be something for everyone. For the Crab Feast call 410-272-3278 for tickets sold in advance.

Tomorrow, June 2, the Hosanna School will hold its "Exhibition of Slave, Farmer and Artisan" from 1 to 4 p.m., as part of Journey Stories.

All the Harford County libraries are celebrating "Journey Stories" through July 6. This is a partnership project with the Smithsonian, with an opening ribbon cutting on May 19 at the Abingdon Library which we were pleased to attend and meet representatives from the Smithsonian. The Aberdeen library has a "Canning and Transportation" exhibit prepared by the Aberdeen Room Archives and Museum until July 6.
