Saturday morning for the Havre de Grace Farmers Market, 450 Pennington Ave. Booths set up 9 a.m. to noon. How about some local corn-on-the-cob from the farmers market for an extra treat? Did you know that corn is the largest crop of the USA, with its origins in Mexico?
Leaving the farmers market, stop by the Havre de Grace Visitors Center, 450 Pennington Ave., to pick up the new brochure publication, Upper Bay Heritage Attractions and War of 1812 sites, by http://www.upperbay1812.com. This Maryland Bicentennial brochure gives you 15 ways each to explore Harford and Cecil counties as well as specific sites, landmarks, exhibits and attractions relating to the War of 1812 in those counties.
Sunday is Women's Equality Day. Established by Congress in 1971, this day honors the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920, giving women the vote. Plan to use that vote Nov. 6.
The Grace Place Serving Center will host a free, hot meal luncheon Aug. 28 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 114 N. Union Ave., 410-939-2107 to anyone in need who enters.
Book donations are being accepted for the Harford County Public Library used book sale at the Havre de Grace branch, 120 N. Union Ave., 410-939-6700 to be held Sept. 8-15.

Guided historic walking tours of Havre de Grace are available ($12 ticket) on the third weekend of the month, Saturdays at 10 a.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. or by appointment, 410-939-0565. To take the 1 1/2 hour tour, reservations are required, buy tickets also at mainstreethdg.com. Haunted tours begin in September on weekends.
Terri Glenn reminded me about activities at the Havre de Grace Senior Activity Center, 410-939-5121 on Lewis Lane: center bingo (today Friday, 1 p.m.); Lighthouse cafe and iced coffee bar (Aug. 27, 9:30 a.m.); crab feast (Aug. 28, 12:30 p.m.); cornhole tournament (Aug. 31, 10 a.m.).
The American Legion Post 47 will host a crab feast Sept. 2, 2 to 6 p.m. at the pavilion, 501 St. John St. The Maryland buffet includes: steamed crabs, crab soup, corn-on-the-cob, barbecue chicken, hot dogs, salads, sauerkraut and baked beans, snacks and beverages, music, games and raffles. The Havre de Grace Historic Preservation Commission is very pleased with the new additions to the 71 oval blue and white signs encouraging one to skip, hop, trot and walk the blue line of the 3 1/2 mile trail through the Havre de Grace Historic District and downtown. Trail hikers may reward themselves with an oval blue and white car decal, "I walked the Lafayette Trail, Havre de Grace, MD" ($2 plus tax) available at the Havre de Grace Visitors Center. Here's the scoop! Let's have our ninth Havre de Grace citywide community yard sale Sept. 15 (raindate Sept. 16). The more, the better. To participate, put out your yard sale items at your residence (or business); no permit needed. Time your sale between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or so. If you wish to go earlier, that's OK; if you wish to stay open later, that's OK, too. And it's free!
