Harford's Greatest Athletes: Richard Slutzky

Aberdeen's Richard "Dick" Slutzky was already an accomplished wrestler when he settled in Harford County nearly four decades ago. At Syracuse University Slutzky finished fourth in the 1963 NCAA tournament and runner-up at 157 in the 1964 tournament, losing a 9-7 decision in the final. As a 31-year teacher and wrestling coach at Aberdeen High School, his teams were annually among the best in the state and produced multiple state champions, including Slutzky's son, Matt, a rare four-time winner. Slutky is a member of the Maryland and National Wrestling halls of fame and, since 2002, has been an elected member of the Harford County Council.
