Maryland's State Highway Administration will hold a public meeting on Nov. 9 to present plans to replace the bridge on Middletown Road that spans Interstate 83 in Parkton.
The meeting goes from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Prettyboy Elementary School's cafeteria. There is no formal presentation. Those interested can speak with project team members and look at displays.
SHA engineers say the bridge, built in 1957, is structurally safe but is deteriorating. The existing two-lane bridge will be replaced with a three-lane bridge beginning in early summer, 2012. The third lane will carry westbound traffic. The bridge roadway will be 43-feet wide and will look similar to the Freeland Road bridge, which was completed in 2007.
The project is estimated to cost between $4.5 and $5 million. The bridge will remain open to traffic during construction but the nearby Park & Ride lot will lose 20 of its 60 spaces so construction equipment can be parked there.
Prettyboy Elementary School is at 19810 Middletown Road, Freeland.
