Officials with Prince George's County public schools have canceled all after-school activities on Monday, as snow continues to fall in Laurel with little accumulation but lots of slush.
Prince George's County public schools opened on a two-hour delay, while Laurel schools in Howard County were closed on Monday. Anne Arundel County public school students already had the day off -- for spring break.
With Easter less than a week away, Laurel residents woke up to a carpet of snow today, causing a somewhat slippery commute and sending crews from Laurel Department of Public Works and the Maryland State High Administration out to plow and salt the roads.
SHA offered these reminders for staying safe on the roads during a snow storm:
- Turn on your car lights;
- Don't use cruise control on icy roads;
- Be careful on bridges, overpasses and infrequently traveled roads, which will freeze first. Even at temperatures above freezing, if the conditions are wet, you might encounter ice in shady areas or on exposed roadways like bridges.
- Move over, and out of travel lanes, if involved in a fender bender with no injuries;
- Move over and away from emergency vehicles during incidents, and keep your eyes on the road, not at the scene.
