Russett celebrated its 20th anniversary (1992-2012) at the sold-out annual picnic June 9, held in the community center complex. Upon check-in, each attendee got to choose either a Russett logo umbrella or backpack gift to commemorate this historical event, along with a free ice cream ticket and food wristband.
There was plenty of mouth-watering picnic fare such as hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecued chicken, a variety of salads, dessert and more, catered by Absolutely Perfect Caterers. Popcorn and ice cream were also an extra-special treat. A roaming magician kept everyone amused with his tricks of the trade, while the airbrush tattoo artist had a variety of tattoos, a little something for everyone. The ever-so-popular moon bounce kept the little ones busy bouncing around inside for hours, while others were playing and scampering about outside. But wait, that's not all: The pièce de résistance was the air-conditioned game truck, which had a variety of video games that tested everyone's skill level, young and old alike.
Neighbors, families and friends were seen socializing and enjoying one another's company, including Russett Community Association Board of Directors president Rob Newman and his wife, Julie, and their daughter, Caroline; my husband, Tim Reyburn, who is vice president; treasurer Antonio Downing and his wife, Audran, and daughter Aubrey; secretary Linda Genovese; and neighborhood 14B representative Julian King and his wife, Linda, which added to the camaraderie and enthusiasm that was prevalent throughout the day.
A big Russett "thank you" goes out to the activities committee and all the volunteers, participants and on-site staff who helped to make this another successful and exciting event. See you next year!
Russett's annual Hot Dog and Ice Cream Day is Saturday, July 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Russett pool complex. The price for a hot dog, soda and bag of chips will be $1, and American Pool Management Co. will provide a variety of complimentary frozen treats.
