Attempted armed robbery New Year's Eve at Russett Wendy's

Anne Arundel County Police said a man armed with a handgun attempted to rob the Wendy's in Laurel on New Year's Eve, but fled empty-handed.

Police said they responded to a robbery report around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Wendy's restaurant at 3563 Russett Green East. A man, armed with a handgun, demanded money from the store's safe, but when he was told the safe could not be opened, he fled, according to police.

Police and a K-9 unit checked the area, but did not locate the man.
