Maryland City: Summer activities linger on

As the kids start to think about returning to school, I just want to remind everyone that it is still summer. A couple of upcoming events include the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department's monthly basket bingo on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission ranges between $18 to $21 and reservations can be made at or by calling 301-483-4985.

Another summer favorite includes the West Arundel Swim Team's annual Crab Feast and Swim that will be held on Aug. 11 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale starting Aug. 5. Please call the swim club at 301-725-9831 or email for more information or to order your tickets.

The Maryland City Recreation Council has started tackle football and cheerleading practices at Brock Bridge Elementary School. If you have not yet turned in your registration forms, please hurry to be included. For more information on tackle football, contact Catie Herman at 240-441-8727 or For more information about cheerleading, contact Jessica Deinlein at

Flag football will start near the end of August. Maryland City Recreation Council is very excited to offer this new program. For more information about flag football, contact Dave or Brenda Cintron at

As a final note, Mustangs Soccer held registrations for the fall season last week. If you missed registrations for county travel (ages 8 and older), semi-travel soccer (7-year-old players) and mini-kicks soccer (ages 3 to 6), please contact my husband John Venit, who is the soccer coordinator, at to get registered quickly.

Travel teams will begin practice in the next two weeks and the semi-travel and mini-kicks programs will get started in early September. Travel teams need to be registered with the county by the end of next week, so please make sure your travel players are registered by Wednesday, Aug. 8.
