Laurel Historical Society honors volunteers

Jerry Chappell was named the Laurel Historical Society Volunteer of the Year for 2012.

Chappell, a Laurel resident, started volunteering at the museum in 2004, and is a regular weekly volunteer, giving tours and working in the museum shop. He was recognized for sharing his knowledge of Laurel and passion for history with museum visitors, including sharing his personal experiences working in a mill as a young boy with visitors to the museum's 2012 exhibit on Laurel mill workers.

The Laurel Historical Society also recognized volunteers for their length of service: Jhanna Levin and Phyllis Mills, 10 years; and Regina Mima, Eileen Collins, Henry Borger, Maggie Hubbard and Holly Lilienthal, five years.
