Did you know that Howard County has a Bird Club?
The Howard County Bird Club meets each month, plus the club sponsors several bird watching opportunities in our local area. Their next big event is the Seed Sale.
If you're like me and have a couple of bird feeders in the yard, this may be a perfect opportunity to buy some seed and contribute to a worthwhile cause.
The seed sale will be held on Oct. 6. You can order your seed by mail, email or on the club's website. The seed will be available for pickup on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wildlife Authority located at 3275 Bethany Lane, Suite B in Ellicott City.
For more information, go to http://www.wildlifeauthority.com. The proceeds from the seed sale will go to various conservation organizations.
The Lisbon United Methodist Church will be sponsoring a Grief Share support group beginning on Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. The group meetings will continue for 13 weeks under the leadership of the Rev. Ken McDonald.
At each session, there will be a video followed by discussion with those wishing to share their views. If you have lost a loved one, and would just like to come and listen to others who are grieving or to share your ideas, everyone is welcome to attend.
The church is at 15875 Frederick Road in the heart of Lisbon. For more information, call 410-489-7245.
Last, but not least, I'd like my readers to share my joy about my new grandson.
My daughter and her husband, Karen and Christopher Thelen, along with their 2-year-old son Landon welcomed their newest son, Chase Michael Thelen, on July 28, 2012.
Chase is a real bruiser, weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. Karen and Christopher recently relocated to Springboro, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton. Karen is a 2000 graduate of Glenelg High School. Needless to say, I'm missing Karen and her family; but hope to fly out there often to see the little guys.
