The owners of Royal Farms want to change the zoning designation oof the land where Laurel Dodge sits so they can place a gas station and convenience store on that location. The county zoning department sets rules for what can and cannot be put on a certain piece of property to avoid an abundance of one type of business in a specific area and to help encourage other businesses to come to that area.
The land currently is zoned as a Community Activity Center, a designation created to help the area become a key to a community and to create a center that would attract other businesses to help with the community's revitalizaton.
If you want your voice to heard on this matter, there is a public meeting about Royal Farms' zoning change proposal on Wednesday, May 23 starting at 6 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road.
