North Laurel/Savage: Historical society offers a taste of Laurel on a tour

Gorman Farms is pretty well known in this area for its fresh produce. If you haven't had a chance to visit them, this is a perfect time of year to do it.

This Saturday, Sept. 8, the Laurel Historical Society will kick off its free Tasting Laurel Tour at the farm at 10151 Gorman Road.

If you cannot make the tour, the family-owned organic farm is open Wednesday through Friday, 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. To 4 p.m.

Atholton High School wants you! Supporters are looking for parents to help with many programs in either their Athletic Boosters or PTSA.

Hammond High School's Ursa Major Robotics team will have its first competition on Sept. 15 with the Battle o' Baltimore.

Gorman Crossing's Back to School Night is Thursday, Sept. 27, starting at 6:30 p.m. Please plan to attend. Do not forget the annual 5K run on Sept. 22.

The Southeast Horizon Council will sponsor its annual Family Health Expo on Sept. 29 at the North Laurel Community Center. It will run 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

This free event offers many health screenings for things like bone density, high blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose; even dental and vision screenings. Representatives will inform you what to do if your child does not have health insurance.

Also, there will be the mobile food pantry and box lunches will be offered free, while supplies last.

Do not forget to attend St. Francis of Assisi's yard sale this Saturday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to noon. There should be lots of booths offering wonderful treasures. The church is at 8300 Old Columbia Road in Fulton.

Do not forget the North Laurel Civic Association's annual picnic on Sept. 16.

Resurrection of Our Lord holds its annual yard sale Saturday, Oct. 20. Spaces go for for $20 or $25 for a space with a table and chair. The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
