My condolences to the family of Agnes Faye Watts Furr, who died recently at the age of 79. She was the daughter of Sam and Elsie Watts, who started Sam and Elsie's Restaurant along Route 1. It has become a landmark in our community.

Faye, as most called her, bought the restaurant from her parents and ran it for many years. In 2010, she sold it so she could enjoy her retirement.

She is survived by three children, Vicky, Tommy and Stevie. Her son, Harvey, preceded her in death.

The 50+ Senior Center at the North Laurel Community Center will host a fall BBQ with bluegrass music Sept. 25, starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $8 and the music will be provided by the Savage Bluegrass Band.

They will also be offering a program to learn how to prepare for an emergency, on Sept. 26, at 9:30 a.m. Registration is required for both events, so R.S.V.P. at 410-313-0380.
