At 8 years old, Mason Roberts has struggled his entire life. Mason was born with pneumonia and meningitis.
They were not sure he would live, but he proved them wrong. He has three lung diseases that have caused many problems, including many more trips back to the hospital. He has had around 40 cases of pneumonia and has to be home-schooled most of the year because of his health issues.
A typical day for Mason is that he wakes up and gets a breathing treatment and then breakfast. He has a tutor from the county three times a week and, after that ,he needs a nap. After that is treatment two.
He has to wear a mask if he leaves the house, and he leaves only if the humidity is not too high or it is not raining. He has a tube to help with his eating. At night he gets another treatment and then is attached to a feeding tube with a growth hormone to help him ensure he gets enough of his nutrients as well as to help him grow.
Now, his insurance says he does not need the growth hormone. The doctors do not have a label for the condition, so no nonprofit will donate to his cause. This has left the family without the financial support they need to continue to help Mason. They have applied for assistance but are still waiting to hear if they will receive it.
They are also trying to set up a nonprofit site for him. If you would like to find out more about Mason and how he is doing, go to helpformason.com.
