North Laurel/Savage: Want summer activities for the kids? Call on the police

Looking for activities for the kids during the summer? The Howard County Police Department will be bringing its mobile Community Athletic Program to the North Laurel Community Center on Thursdays this summer.

The police department will bring a trailer down to the center every Thursday, except July 26, filled with sports gear, games and video game equipment.

There will be a staff of county resource officers to supervise. This is a great program to build a relationship between middle school and high school students and police officers. The program runs through Aug. 17 and the hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

North Laurel Community Center's Family Night at the Movies will be Saturday, July 21, 6 to 8 p.m. This month's movie is "Percy Jackson and the Olympians."

BWI Airport is working on runways. So what does that have to do with our area? As the runways get repaired, altered flight patterns could increase flights over our area.

This organization uses donated business clothing to help those out of work find jobs by being dressed properly for interviews. They sell the clothing at their shop, Charity's Closet in the Savage Mill, for $5.

It may only be July, but if you have a child that will be starting a new school, or school for the first time this fall, register your student now.

Schools are staffed based on enrollment and so they sooner they know how many children will be attending a school, the better staffed the school will be. Children may be off for the summer but the schools are still open.
