There are plenty of options to celebrate Valentine's Day locally

Happy Valentine's Day to all my readers. Do you have something special planned for those you care about? Well, if you are looking for a family friendly event, why not attend the Valentine's Day dinner dance Saturday, Feb. 11 sponsored by the Knights of Columbus at Resurrection of the Lord Church?

The event will be held in the hall starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost $12.50 per person and $6 for anyone younger than 18 in advance and $15 per person and $7.50 for youth at the door. This includes dinner, drinks, dancing and kid's crafts and activities.

Or why not attend a spaghetti dinner being held by the Savage Boys and Girls Club and U12 travel baseball team on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Savage Fire Hall? The money will help the two teams attend a tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y., home of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Are you ready for a family fun night at the movies? The North Laurel Community Center will be hosting movie night with "G. I. Joe" Feb. 18 starting at 6 p.m. Cost is $2 for members and $4 for nonmembers 5 and older. This includes a popcorn and drink as well. You must register for this event. Call 410-313-0390.

Laurel Woods Elementary School held its spelling bee Jan. 19 and the winner is fourth grader Samreen Malik. Runner up is fifth-grader Stephannie Joseph. Samreen will represent Laurel Woods at the county bee March 9. Good luck, Samreen!

Donna Meoli at Emmanuel United Methodist Church wanted to invite everyone to its Shrove Tuesday pancake supper that is being held by its youth mission team Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. The team is raising money for their mission trip to the Bahamas to help repair houses and build ramps for the needy.

The dinner will include pancakes, sausage, spiced apples and drinks. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 12. Little ones younger than 5 can eat for free.
