Councilwoman Jen Terrasa will attend the Feb. 21 meeting of the North Laurel Civic Association at 7 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road.
Among items to discuss is the location of an apartment complex to house chronically homeless residents on Route 1 in North Laurel.
Many residents have expressed concerns about the shelter and what it will do to the area. They are also concerned about how this will impact plans for revitalizing the area and attracting quality businesses. Come out for the meeting and learn what else is happening in our area.
Who runs the world? Girls, at least according to the new free four-week program for middle school girls sponsored by Grassroots at the MultiService Center on Route The program starts Feb. 16 to help girls with self empowerment, self improvement and self reflection.

Do you need help with simple office work while, at the same time, helping out some students. Atholton High School's Academic Life Skills Classes are looking for office work they can have their students do for you — free of charge.
They will even pick up the work if you cannot drop it at the school. All work guaranteed. The students will learn to do things such as collating, folding, stuffing envelopes, assembling notebooks, filing and other tasks. The North Laurel Community Center is not just a community center. It also has a Senior Center and Senior Plus Center. Did you know that?
Some upcoming programs for the Senior Plus include a Valentine's Day concert and lunch on Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. The concert costs $5 and donations are accepted for the lunch.
Also at Senior Plus, on Feb. 20, at 11 a.m., there will be a free performance of spirituals, jazz and American classics, plus a dance performance. Starting Feb. 27, there will be a six-week program about living with diabetes at 1 pm. To learn more, call the center at 410-313-0380.
The monthly Saturday night at the movies at the North Laurel Community Center will be "Smurfs" on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. Cost is $2 for members and $4 for non-members.
