North Laurel: Check out 'Toy Story 3' at Community Center's Saturday's at the Movies

Winter is here and that means it is time to find things to do indoors. Now that we have the North Laurel Community Center, that is easy to do. The Community Center is gearing up to start some new winter programs. They have programs for all ages and they do offer all classes on a sliding scale for those who need it. Membership also has it advantages, with discounts on prices for events and is ony $25 a year.

One program that should be a lot of fun for the whole family is Saturdays at the Movies. It starts Saturday, Jan. 21 with "Toy Story 3" from 6 to 8 p.m. The movie costs $2 for members and $4 for nonmembers. Children 4 and younger are free. That also includes a drink and popcorn.

What a fun way to spend the evening with the entire family. You must register to attend by calling 410-313-0390. Next month, the movie is "G. I. Joe" Feb. 18 and then "Tangled" March 17.

Bibi Foston-Perotte, president of the North Laurel Civic Association would like to remind everyone that dues are due at this time and are only $10 for the year. There is so much going on in the area, everyone should stay informed.

Bibi wanted to also update you that there will be a meeting on the resubmission on a property on All Saints Road, in Highridge. They want to put 7 houses on the lot. The meeting will be at the Savage Branch Library Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. The association's next meeting will be Feb. 16 at the Community Center.

Does your teenager want to work out but you cannot find them somewhere to go? The North Laurel Community Center is now allowing children 13 to 15 years of age to join their fitness center. They will need to go through a fitness orientation and will need adult supervision while working out. For more information please call 410-313-0390.

A reminder that Howard County will stop collecting yard waste Friday, Jan. 20 and will not resume collection until April 1. You can however, drop off yard waste at Alpha Ridge Landfill. The landfill is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. Howard County now will help you try and find a way to recycle different items.
