Lisbon/Woodbine: Local author Patty Sroka begins the tale of the Fallon Sisters Trilogy with 'Relentless'

It looks like we're going to have a celebrity living right in our neighborhood. Many of you may know Patty Sroka, and if you don't, I'm sure you will hear about her in the coming months.

Patty has just written a book using the name, P.J. O'Dwyer. The title of the book is "Relentless." It's a mystery romance, but what's most important is that the setting involves a horse rescue farm. This will be the first in a trilogy of books from the Fallon Sisters Trilogy.

She has used horse rescue and advocacy groups from across the country as her source of information in writing this book. As a thank you to them and because of her own interest in rescuing horses, Patty will be donating 5 percent of the proceeds from the books sold from her website to nonprofit horse rescue and advocacy groups.

"Relentless" will be available to purchase at local bookstores beginning on Sunday, April 15. The book will also be available to purchase from Books With a Past, in Glenwood. The hardcover edition will be $26.99 in stores, $19.99 if purchased on the website, and the ebook will be $7.99.

Patty will also be very busy promoting the book locally. She will be doing a book signing at the Lisbon Firehouse Hall on April 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. with donations from that day going to Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue and Days End Farm Horse Rescue.

I was so happy to get an email from Sori Meredith, telling me about the Scouting for Food Drive. I've had these plastic bags hanging from my mailbox, but didn't know what they were for.

This year, the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing Crews, and Girl Scouts are working together to feed the hungry in Howard County. They will be collecting non-perishable food on April 21 and delivering to more than 30 food pantries in the County. A tan, Mars grocery store plastic bag will be dropped off at each home a few days before collection day, April 21. You can fill it with non-perishables and leave it by your front door or mailbox for pickup. Last year, the Scouts collected more than 87,000 pounds of food. What a huge help this must be to the food pantries! For more information, email to

The Ladies Auxiliary of St. Michael's Catholic Church will be holding its annual Friendship Spring Tea on April 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. This event has become a wonderful day of socializing with friends for the ladies in our community. The group will be serving a variety of teas, finger sandwiches, and sweet treats. The cost is $14 per adult and $7 for children younger than 12. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 301-829-6924.
