Highland/Fulton: Reservoir High School Student Government Association sponsors Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive

Peanut butter and jelly, otherwise known as PB&J or PBJ, is one of my favorite breakfasts, especially on toasted bread and with a fresh cup of coffee. The Student Government Association of Reservoir High School is sponsoring a Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive which will benefit local food banks and shelters.

They are collecting plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly and, in the spirit of friendly competition, there is a goal of 500 jars from the students and 100 jars from Reservoir staff. The drive has already started and will run through Dec. 20.

You say you don't have a student? No problem. Drop off your jars (that's right, plural) at the SGA office. If you don't know where it is, just ask at the front office. Thanks in advance for your support.

Everyone has heard of Toys for Tots, one of the many charitable programs sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps. Now in its 67th year, you can find Toys for Tots collection boxes just about everywhere.

One local spot can be found at the office of Dr. Jerry Radas at Fulton Family Chiropractic at 7625 Maple Lawn Blvd., Suite 160. This is their second year as a collection site. Help bring some happiness to a less fortunate child by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to Radas' office. The last drop off date is Dec. 16.

For more information, give the office a call at 301-490-8550.

Finally, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, on Old Scaggsville Road, will hold its annual "Breakfast with St. Nicholas" Dec. 17. This special event runs from 8 to 11 a.m. Tickets are $8 for ages 13 and older, $5 for ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and younger.

Breakfast includes delicious pancakes and sausages. There will be crafts, pictures with the Nativity characters and a visit with jolly St. Nicholas. A cookie sale starts at 9 a.m. with large containers going for $12. All proceeds from the cookie sale will benefit Mason's Mission Team. Mason is an 8-year-old boy who suffers from a Chiari malformation, an abnormality in the lower part of the cerebellum. As a result, has contracted pneumonia 48 times. For more information, call the church office 301-725-5200.

Only 16 more shopping days until Christmas! Well, that's all for this week. Commit a random act of kindness. Look in on your neighbors. Say a prayer for our troops who are serving in harm's way and remember their families, too.
