The community is invited to participate in a special Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, May 9, from 2 to 7:30 p.m., at the Gary J. Arthur Community Center in Glenwood.
This blood drive has been organized to coordinate with a number of drives across the country that all honor 2-year-old Signe Gaasch, who was diagnosed last summer with brain cancer. Signe is the niece and cousin of a Bushy Park Elementary School family.
The PTA wishes to honor Signe's courageous battle by helping patients like her who rely on life-saving transfusions every day. To schedule your donation, call 1-800-Red Cross or sign up online at http://www.redcrossblood.org (enter the sponsor code "Signe").
Farmers' markets will take place at various county locations Wednesday through Sunday, and will run through Nov. 24. On Saturday mornings, plan to stop by the Glenwood Branch Library for the farmers' market from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Several local and popular favorites who will be in attendance at the Glenwood Farmers' Market include Glenelg's own TLV Tree Farm, Bowling Green Farm from Sykesville and Breezy Willow Farm from West Friendship.

A few weeks ago I shared news of several Folly Quarter Middle School students who were named as Ben Carson Scholars. There were also several Glenelg High School students who were recognized as Ben Carson Scholars at the April 7 Carson Scholars Fund annual awards banquet. Congratulations to Andrew Desrochers, a 5-year scholar; Erica Younkin, a 4-year scholar, and Anne Harshbarger, a 3-year scholar.
The West Howard Swim Team will hold registration for the swim and dive team Wednesday, May 1, and Friday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the West Howard Swim Club. You must be a current member of the West Howard Swim Club to be on either the swim or dive team. Any questions, email DebbieO2004@comcast.net.
