Elkridge: Teen to play Belle in 'Beauty and the Beast' at Laurel's Gardens Ice House March 24 and 25

Soo Jeon, of Elkridge, will play the role of "Belle" in the theater-on-ice production of "Beauty and the Beast," on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25 at the Gardens Ice House, in Laurel.

Jeon, 17, who has been attending the McDonogh School since the sixth grade and is currently in her junior year, has been a competitor at national and regional figure skating competitions and is a veteran performer of Gardens Figure Skating Club ice shows.

She attended Deep Run Elementary School for five years and at 17, has been skating for only eight years. She has made incredible strides in the sport for what some would consider a "late start" on the ice.

"It is definitely more than a hobby for me, and is a huge time commitment, but I am competitive. I have learned to fight through disappointments and just keep pushing myself even if the results do not follow immediately," Jeon said.

Jeon is an honor roll student, favoring math, history and French, and is active in the French Club and Special Olympics Club at McDonogh.

Don't miss Jeon as Belle in the Gardens Figure Skating Club eighth annual Spring Ice Show of "Beauty and the Beast" with four shows: March 24 and 25 at both 1 and 3:30 p.m. at the Gardens Ice House's Patrick Arena, 13800 Old Gunpowder Road, in Laurel.

Tickets are on sale at the arena for $10 general admission, with a limited number of special reserved seats available for $15. General admission tickets are available online for $11 at http://www.seatyourself.biz/gardensfsc. Groups of 10 or more may purchase general admission tickets for $8 per person by inquiring through gfsctickets@gmail.com. Under age 3 admitted free.

The full cast includes local skaters ages 3 and older with skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced, creating a visually exciting theatrical experience.

The show is an entertaining way to experience the magic and artistry of figure skating. Many of the skaters compete in the U.S. Figure Skating system including national level artistic, theater on ice, and synchronized skating competitions.
