The Columbia Ravens Football program will hold its homecoming activities Sat., Oct. 22 at Cedar Lane Park West. All present and former Ravens players and families are encouraged to come out for a day of football, friends and fun. Former players are encouraged to wear their current high school jerseys or former Ravens jerseys. Go to




The Howard County Striders will hold their 35th annual Metric Marathon (26.2k/16.3 miles) and Metric 5k Nov. 13. The races start in Columbia Town Center at 8:15 a.m. Cost: $35 for the 26k and $30 for the 5k. Race day registration is $5 extra. Register at Emil


Sign up for a 9k Around the Fairways at the Timber at Troy Golf Course on Nov. 5. This is a new race and the opportunity to run the golf cart path. Brunch is scheduled after the race. Register at


The Dazzle Dash will be held Nov. 19 for runners and Nov. 20 for walkers. This is a 1.4 mile run or walk through the Symphony of Lights. Early registration ends Nov. 1. Save $5 by registering early. Go to




The regular meeting of Talkin' Baseball will be held Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. at Brighton Gardens, 7110 Minstrel Way, Columbia. Tom Flynn will discuss his book, "Baseball in Baltimore." Call 410-740-1145.


The HCYP Raiders 16-U tournament team is looking to fill the final two slots on its roster. The team will be participating in high-level tournaments throughout the mid-Atlantic area between Memorial Day and the middle of July. Eligible candidates should have travel baseball and high school baseball experience as a catcher or outfielder and cannot turn 17 before May 1, 2012. Email or call 410 371-9843.


The 12-U Pasadena Eagles travel team will be competing in either MABA or Metro travel league play, five or six local tournaments and the Cooperstown Dream Park Tournament next July. Interested players should email or call 443-812-6778 to schedule a workout.


The AYRA baseball program is holding tryouts for its 10-U, U-11 and U-15 spring travel teams. Go to for details. The 15-U team's tryouts will be held from 2-4 p.m., Oct. 22 and 29. E-mail




The Savage Boys and Girls Club will hold travel team tryouts for 4th grade boys (Oct. 18 and 20) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Murray Hill Middle School. Tryouts for the 7th grade boys team will be held Oct. 17 and 19 from 6:30-8 p.m., also at Murray Hill. Players are encouraged to attend both sessions.

Western Howard County Youth Basketball is still accepting registration for the 2011-2012 recreation program. Please go to for registration information.

Columbia's Spitfire Field Hockey Club holds its U-12 and U-14 winter indoor team tryouts on Oct. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at Garrison Forest School, in Owing Mills. Register online at or call 301-490-9997 for more information.




Stevenson University will host the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. to help raise funds for the Meghan Puls Foundation.

The classic will feature four teams Stevenson, Stevens Institute of Technology, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Goucher College.

Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit theUniversity of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. Other beneficiaries include The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs.
