Concerts: Live music at Second Chance this weekend

Johnny Castle and the Nighthawks will perform the blues Fri., Sept. 9, 9 p.m., at the Second Chance Saloon (Columbia, 410-545-5844). The local group won the 2011 Blues Music Award for Acoustic Album of the Year. Dropping Sully opens.

'Les Miz' for teens

The Drama Learning Center will hold auditions for its upcoming production by its teen professional company, Teaching Young Actors, of "Les Miserables School Edition." Auditions will be held by appointment through Sept. 15 with callbacks Oct. 1.

Auditions are open to students grades 8-12 and troupe alums. Rehearsals will take the form of classes, held Saturdays, 2-5 p.m., with select Sundays and weekday evenings.

The troupe is also holding auditions for a "Song and Scene Showcase" for its junior company, open to students in grades 6-10.

Sing with the Pros

Columbia Pro Cantare is beginning rehearsals this week for its 35th anniversary season, which opens in October. There are still openings for singers, but audition appointments are required. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday at Hammond High School, 7:30-10 p.m. This season, the group will perform music by Haydn and Handel, plus a premiere by area composer Tom Benjamin.
