Mt. Hebron student released from hospital after being hit by car

A Mt. Hebron High School student was taken to Howard County General Hospital Friday morning after she was hit by a car near her bus stop in Ellicott City, according to a school email sent by Principal Scott Ruehl.

The student, a 15-year-old sophomore, was evaluated and released later in the morning from the hospital, according to Howard County Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.

According to witnesses, the student, who was not at an intersection or crosswalk, "ran across Town and Country Boulevard," said Llewellyn.

"Preliminarily, it does not appear the driver was at fault," Llewellyn added.

A statement about the accident was read to Mt. Hebron students during their third period classes, and counselors were available for assistance, Ruehl said.
