McClelan's letter in response to mine of Sept. 6 on same sex marriage is full of logical errors ("Flawed assumptions litter argument against same-sex marriage," Sept.13).
The fact that marriage has always been a loving committed relationship between a man and a woman has nothing to do with the fact that many couples end up unhappy and divorce, or that some suffer abuse. People marry and then things happen. Yes, they sometimes cannot produce children. That does not change the fact that society has always supported marriage to connect children with their biological parents and provide the optimal arrangement for raising the children. The American Academy of Pediatrics has long endorsed this position because of the overwhelming evidence.
