Golf: State champ Silberberg organizing scramble tournament

Last fall Wilde Lake's Tyler Silberberg made headlines by becoming only the second county golfer ever to win a state championship.

Now, this spring, he's making headlines without having to even swing a club.

Under the county's GT Intern/Mentor Program, Silberberg has been interning this semester at Fairway Hills golf club in Columbia and, as part of his final project, he is helping put on a golf outing to benefit the Wilde Lake High School Boosters Club.

This Wilde Lake Wildecat Golf outing is scheduled for June 1, with Silberberg serving as manager of the event. The shotgun start is scheduled at noon at Fairway Hills and will be played under a scramble (captain's choice) format.

Wilde Lake's principal James LeMon is serving as tournament sponsor.

Those individuals that are interested in playing in the event or serving as an additional sponsor can contact or pick up at registration form at Fairway Hills. The registration deadline is May 25 and there are several options available:

Single Entry Fee (includes 18 holes, cart, continental breakfast and dinner, drink tickets and prizes) - $85

Green Sponsor (two golfers with all benefits listed above and hole sponsor) - $150

Gold Sponsor (foursome with all benefits listed above and hole sponsor) - $300

Hole Sponsor - $50

Contest Sponsor (long drive, closest to the pin) - $75
